〜ばあいは・〜のに — In case of, even though
- Vる ／ Vた ／ Vない ＋ ばあいは: おくれた ばあいはIn case… (verbs)
- N の ＋ ばあいは: じこの ばあいはIn case of… (nouns)
- いA ＋ ばあいは (わるい ばあいは) · なA な ＋ ばあいは (ひつような ばあいは)In case… (adjectives)
- Vた ／ Vる ＋ のに、…: ついたのに、おくれましたEven though… (verbs)
- いA ＋ のに · なA ／ N ＋ なのに: やすみなのにEven though… (adjectives, nouns)
- が just joins two ideas · のに adds complaint or surprise · no requests after のにのに or が?
Examples
- ひこうきが おくれた ばあいは、かかりいんに きいて ください。hikouki ga okureta baai wa, kakariin ni kiite kudasai.If the plane is delayed, please ask a member of staff.
- じこの ばあいは、ひじょうぐちから でて ください。jiko no baai wa, hijouguchi kara dete kudasai.In the event of an accident, please leave by the emergency exit.
- きぶんが わるい ばあいは、この ボタンを おして ください。kibun ga warui baai wa, kono botan o oshite kudasai.If you feel unwell, please press this button.
- はやく ついたのに、ひこうきが おくれました。hayaku tsuita no ni, hikouki ga okuremashita.Even though we got there early, the plane was delayed.
- めざましどけいを セットしたのに、なりませんでした。mezamashidokei o setto shita no ni, narimasen deshita.Even though I set the alarm clock, it didn't go off.
- ハナさんは やすみなのに、くうこうまで きて くれました。Hana-san wa yasumi na no ni, kuukou made kite kuremashita.Even though it was her day off, Hana came all the way to the airport.
