きんじょ近所kinjo	neighborhood
きんじょに スーパーが あります。Kinjo ni suupaa ga arimasu.There is a supermarket in the neighborhood.
おくじょう屋上okujou	rooftop
デパートの おくじょうから やまが みえます。Depaato no okujou kara yama ga miemasu.You can see the mountains from the department store roof.
かいがい海外kaigai	overseas, abroad
かいがいへ いった ことが ありますか。Kaigai e itta koto ga arimasu ka.Have you ever been abroad?
やまのぼり山登りyamanobori	mountain climbing
やまのぼりが すきです。Yamanobori ga suki desu.I like mountain climbing.
れきし歴史rekishi	history
にほんの れきしを べんきょうして います。Nihon no rekishi wo benkyou shite imasu.I'm studying Japanese history.
きかい機会kikai	opportunity
きかいが あれば、また きたいです。Kikai ga areba, mata kitai desu.If I get the opportunity, I'd like to come again.
きょか許可kyoka	permission
しゃしんを とる まえに、きょかを もらって ください。Shashin wo toru mae ni, kyoka wo moratte kudasai.Please get permission before taking photos.
まる丸maru	circle
ここに まるを かいて ください。Koko ni maru wo kaite kudasai.Please draw a circle here.
ふりがなfurigana	furigana (kana reading of kanji)
かんじに ふりがなを つけて ください。Kanji ni furigana wo tsukete kudasai.Please add furigana to the kanji.
せつび設備setsubi	facilities, equipment
この ホテルは せつびが いいです。Kono hoteru wa setsubi ga ii desu.This hotel has good facilities.
レバーrebaa	lever
レバーを まわせば、みずが でます。Rebaa wo mawaseba, mizu ga demasu.If you turn the lever, the water comes out.
キーkii	key (on a keyboard)
この キーを おせば、えいごに なります。Kono kii wo oseba, eigo ni narimasu.If you press this key, it switches to English.
カーテンkaaten	curtain
カーテンを しめて ください。Kaaten wo shimete kudasai.Please close the curtain.
ひもhimo	string, cord
この ひもは みじかいです。Kono himo wa mijikai desu.This string is short.
すいはんき炊飯器suihanki	rice cooker
あたらしい すいはんきを かいました。Atarashii suihanki wo kaimashita.I bought a new rice cooker.
は葉ha	leaf
あきに なると、きの はが あかく なります。Aki ni naru to, ki no ha ga akaku narimasu.In autumn, the leaves on the trees turn red.

スキーじょうスキー場sukiijou	ski resort
ふゆに なると、スキーじょうは ひとが おおいです。Fuyu ni naru to, sukiijou wa hito ga ooi desu.In winter, the ski resort is crowded.
しゅ朱shu	vermilion
しゅは あかい いろです。Shu wa akai iro desu.Vermilion is a red colour.
まじわります交わりますmajiwarimasu	to associate with
「しゅに まじわれば あかく なる」は ことわざです。"Shu ni majiwareba akaku naru" wa kotowaza desu."Shu ni majiwareba akaku naru" is a proverb: you become like the company you keep.

ひつよう必要hitsuyou	necessary
りょこうに ひつような ものを かいました。Ryokou ni hitsuyou na mono wo kaimashita.I bought the things necessary for the trip.

〜ば・〜なら — If…

• い-row → え-row ＋ ば: いきます → いけば · のみます → のめばIf…, group I
• ます → れば: みます → みればIf…, group II
• します → すれば · きます → くればIf…, group III
• Vない → なければ: いかなければIf not…
• いA: 〜い → 〜ければ (いい → よければ) · なA ／ N ＋ ならIf…, adjectives

Examples

• この くすりを のめば、すぐ なおりますよ。kono kusuri wo nomeba, sugu naorimasu yo.If you take this medicine, you'll get better soon.
