かべに かがみが かけて あります。Kabe ni kagami ga kakete arimasu.A mirror is hung on the wall.
かざります飾りますkazarimasu	to decorate
げんかんに はなを かざりました。Genkan ni hana wo kazarimashita.I decorated the entrance with flowers.
ならべます並べますnarabemasu	to line up/arrange
テーブルに おさらを ならべて あります。Teeburu ni osara wo narabete arimasu.The plates are laid out in a row on the table.
うえます植えますuemasu	to plant
いけの まわりに きを うえました。Ike no mawari ni ki wo uemashita.I planted trees around the pond.
もどします戻しますmodoshimasu	to put back [in its place]
ほんを もとの ところに もどして ください。Hon wo moto no tokoro ni modoshite kudasai.Please put the book back where it was.
まとめますmatomemasu	to gather/summarize
しょるいを まとめて おきます。Shorui wo matomete okimasu.I'll get the documents compiled.
しまいますshimaimasu	to put away
かばんを ひきだしに しまいました。Kaban wo hikidashi ni shimaimashita.I put the bag away in the drawer.
きめます決めますkimemasu	to decide
りょこうの よていを きめました。Ryokou no yotei wo kimemashita.I decided on the travel plan.
よしゅうします予習しますyoshuu shimasu	to prepare for a lesson
じゅぎょうの まえに よしゅうして おきます。Jugyou no mae ni yoshuu shite okimasu.I'll prepare the lesson before class.
ふくしゅうします復習しますfukushuu shimasu	to review a lesson

こうぎの よていひょうを みました。Kougi no yoteihyou wo mimashita.I looked at the lecture timetable.
ミーティングmiitingu	meeting
あしたの ミーティングは じゅうじです。Ashita no miitingu wa juuji desu.Tomorrow's meeting is at ten.
よてい予定yotei	plan/schedule
らいしゅうの よていを おしえて ください。Raishuu no yotei wo oshiete kudasai.Please tell me next week's schedule.

ガイドブックを かって おきました。Gaidobukku wo katte okimashita.I bought a guidebook in advance.

かべに カレンダーが かけて あります。Kabe ni karendaa ga kakete arimasu.A calendar is hung on the wall.
ポスターposutaa	poster
ポスターが はって あります。Posutaa ga hatte arimasu.A poster is put up.
よていひょう予定表yoteihyou	schedule (chart)
よていひょうは ここに あります。Yoteihyou wa koko ni arimasu.The schedule is here.
ごみばこごみ箱gomibako	trash can
ごみばこは すみに あります。Gomibako wa sumi ni arimasu.The trash can is in the corner.
にんぎょう人形ningyou	doll
ほんだなの うえに にんぎょうが かざって あります。Hondana no ue ni ningyou ga kazatte arimasu.Dolls are displayed on top of the bookshelf.
かびん花瓶kabin	vase
まんなかに かびんが おいて あります。Mannaka ni kabin ga oite arimasu.A vase is placed in the middle.
かがみ鏡kagami	mirror
げんかんに かがみが あります。Genkan ni kagami ga arimasu.There is a mirror in the entrance hall.
ひきだし引き出しhikidashi	drawer
かぎは ひきだしの なかです。Kagi wa hikidashi no naka desu.The key is inside the drawer.
げんかん玄関genkan	entrance/foyer
げんかんに リュックが あります。Genkan ni ryukku ga arimasu.There is a rucksack in the entrance hall.
ろうか廊下rouka	corridor/hallway
ろうかに ポスターが はって あります。Rouka ni posutaa ga hatte arimasu.A poster is put up in the corridor.
いけ池ike	pond
こうえんに おおきい いけが あります。Kouen ni ookii ike ga arimasu.There is a big pond in the park.
もとのところ元の所moto no tokoro	the original place
もとの ところに もどして おきます。Moto no tokoro ni modoshite okimasu.I'll put it back where it was.
まわり周りmawari	surroundings/around
いけの まわりを あるきました。Ike no mawari wo arukimashita.I walked around the pond.
まんなか真ん中mannaka	middle/center
へやの まんなかに テーブルが あります。Heya no mannaka ni teeburu ga arimasu.There is a table in the middle of the room.
すみ隅sumi	corner
すみに ごみばこを おいて おきました。Sumi ni gomibako wo oite okimashita.I put the bin in the corner.
リュックryukku	backpack
リュックに かいちゅうでんとうを いれて おきます。Ryukku ni kaichuu dentou wo irete okimasu.I'll put a flashlight in the backpack.
ひじょうぶくろ非常袋hijoubukuro	emergency bag
げんかんに ひじょうぶくろを おいて あります。Genkan ni hijoubukuro wo oite arimasu.An emergency bag is kept in the entrance hall.
ひじょうじ非常時hijouji	emergency situation
ひじょうじの よていを きめて おきましょう。Hijouji no yotei wo kimete okimashou.Let's decide in advance what to do in an emergency.
せいかつします生活しますseikatsu shimasu	to live / make a living
わたしは とうきょうで せいかつして います。Watashi wa toukyou de seikatsu shite imasu.I live my life in Tokyo.
かいちゅうでんとう懐中電灯kaichuu dentou	flashlight
かいちゅうでんとうは ひきだしに しまって あります。Kaichuu dentou wa hikidashi ni shimatte arimasu.The flashlight is put away in the drawer.
〜とか、〜とか~toka, ~toka	~ and ~ and so on
ひじょうぶくろに かいちゅうでんとうとか みずとか いれて おきます。Hijoubukuro ni kaichuu dentou toka mizu toka irete okimasu.In the emergency bag I put a torch, water and things like that.
まるい丸いmarui	round
まんなかに まるい テーブルが あります。Mannaka ni marui teeburu ga arimasu.There is a round table in the middle.
ある〜aru~	a certain ~
ある ひいけで さかなを みました。Aru hi, ike de sakana wo mimashita.On a certain day I saw a fish in the pond.
ゆめをみます夢を見ますyume wo mimasu	to have a dream
きのう こわい ゆめを みました。Kinou kowai yume wo mimashita.I had a scary dream last night.
うれしいureshii	happy/glad
へんじが きて、 うれしいです。Henji ga kite, ureshii desu.I'm happy the answer came.
いや嫌iya	unpleasant/disagreeable
いやな ゆめを みました。Iya na yume wo mimashita.I had an unpleasant dream.
するとsuruto	and then / whereupon
まどを あけました。 すると、 とりが はいって きました。Mado wo akemashita. suruto, tori ga haitte kimashita.I opened the window. Whereupon a bird came in.
めがさめます目が覚めますme ga samemasu	to wake up
けさ ろくじに めが さめました。Kesa rokuji ni me ga samemashita.I woke up at six this morning.

〜て あります／〜て おきます + 〜とか — Left that way & in advance

• Nが Vて ＋ ありますIt is that way because someone left it so
• Vて ＋ おきますDo it in advance
• そのままに して おきますLeave it as it is
• 〜て おきます → 〜ときますColloquial contraction
• AとBA and B, nothing else
• AとかBとか ・ AやB (や ONLY with nouns)A, B and the like

Examples

• まどが しめて あります。mado ga shimete arimasu.The window has been closed.
• あしたの じゅんびを して おきます。ashita no junbi wo shite okimasu.I'll get tomorrow ready in advance.
• そのままに して おいて ください。sono mama ni shite oite kudasai.Please leave it as it is.
• にちようびは テレビを みるとか ほんを よむとか します。nichiyoubi wa terebi wo miru toka hon wo yomu toka shimasu.On Sundays I watch TV, read and so on.
